5 Tips To Preserve Your Vehicle’s Ceramic Coating
Congratulations on your smart decision to safeguard your vehicle with a ceramic coating that offers extended shine and protection. However, you must take proper care and maintenance to make the most of your ceramic coating and sustain its luster.
Here are five valuable tips to help you maintain your vehicle's ceramic coating and prolong the coating’s efficacy. By following these tips, you can be confident that your ceramic coating will continue to offer optimal protection and an impressive shine that turns heads.
1. Avoid Harsh Compounds
During the first few days after application, ceramic coating is vulnerable, so keep it away from strong chemicals, detergents, and unstable pH levels. You can use soaps with a neutral pH level to clean your car without harming the finish or the synthetic moldings holding it together. Soaps like these will help keep the car clean without leaving a waxy or polished residue that could compromise the hydrophobic qualities of the coating.
Also, be cautious with abrasives, spills, and hard mineral water. Park your vehicle somewhere that won't get sap or bird droppings on it. If the surface does come into touch with one of these substances, apply a sealer and use a fresh, high-pile microfiber cloth to remove any residue.
2. Wash Your Vehicle Every Two Weeks
The most important thing to remember when washing your car is to use water that has zero or low amounts of hardness. A filter system is ideal to make sure you will not have any water spots after washing and rinsing your car. If you have a ceramic coating on your car, you should wash it at least once every two weeks. This routine eliminates any pollutants that may have gotten through the ceramic coating's hydrophobic qualities.
Start with a soft pre-soak with your hose and thoroughly clean with a power washer equipped with a foam cannon. Scrubbing your automobile might generate scratches that will ruin the ceramic covering over time, so be careful. Finally, give the car a good rinse to remove any remaining soap.
3. Use the Two-Bucket System
If you want spotless results every time, the ideal wash method is with two buckets and a rinsing mitt. Put a grit guard in one bucket, then fill it with clean water. Consider this your "rinse" bucket.
Before moving on to the second bucket, which should include auto shampoo and warm water, dip the cleaning mitt into the initial bucket. Wash the car from top to bottom using the wash mitt and soapy water, rinsing the mitt between washes in the rinse bucket.
After washing one region of your car, go on to the next and pat down the area with a microfiber cloth to remove any extra water. Always remember to work from the upper to the lower sections, as this will prevent the spread of toxins from higher to lower levels. After washing your car, thoroughly dry it with pressurized air or a drying cloth.
4. Wash Only Under Low Sunlight
The heat from the sun, especially on dark automobiles, can break down the ceramic coating over time. Wash your vehicle in the early morning or late evening, when the amount of sunlight is at its lowest, in a sheltered place. This will prevent water stains and streaks, which are detrimental to the appearance of the ceramic coating.
5. Use Separate Supplies
Wheels and tires collect brake dust and other debris far more quickly than the rest of the automobile, so use different cleaning materials for each. Small metal particles in brake exhaust can scratch your car's paint, so use specialized tools to remove them. Use a soapy bucket and a mitt explicitly made for washing wheels and tires without scratching or damaging the protective layer. Finish with a pressure washer and a wheel brush to remove any stubborn brake dust or debris.
